Festival Details

A modern and stylistically flexible symphony orchestra, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic demonstrates an artistic flair which allows for a variety of styles – from classical to contemporary – in a historically authentic manner. Maestro Philippe Herreweghe is closely associated with historically informed performances at the highest level all over the world, having received acclaim and recognition because of his authentic and lively approach. Since 1997 he is principal conductor of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. He is also in great demand as a guest conductor with orchestras such as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig and the Berlin-based Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Herreweghe’s performances captivate the audience and are marked by “elegance, weightlessness and dance” (Sueddeutsche Zeitung). Violinist Stefan Jackiw is widely praised for his pure sound, beauty of tone and impeccable technique. He made his debut at the age of 14 with the Philharmonia and “took the London music world by storm” (The Strad). He has since performed with some of the world’s leading orchestra—including the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, London Philharmonic, and the Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin—and such renowned conductors as Andris Nelsons, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Sir Andrew Davis, Yuri Temirkanov, and Marin Alsop, amongst others
