Royal Music of India by Niladri Kumaar (sitar)

Accompanied by Satyajit Talwalkar (tabla), Krushna Salunkhe (pakhawaj) and Shikhar Naad Qureshi (Indian percussion)

A fifth-generation sitar player, Niladri Kumaar has trained with his father and Guru, the revered sitarist Kartick Kumar.

Today, Kumaar has emerged as one of the most prominent and sought after sitar player of his generation. Additionally, the influence of world music led him to create the zitar, an electric sitar, which has opened new avenues to connect younger audiences with their roots through a language and sounds they are able to relate to.

In this soirée, Kumaar will present a classical sitar recital starting with alap, jod, jhala, and gats in slow and fast tempo, accompanied by the tabla. This will be followed by Kumaar joining a rhythm ensemble featuring pakhawaj and other Indian percussion instruments, to present other forms.

In association with Saroj Jhaveri Foundation
