An NCPA Presentation in collaboration with Asia Dance Festival.

Yi Chul-jin is a Korean dancer and arts manager. He is a fourth-generation of practitioner of the Seungmu dance form. He launched a small theatre movement in dance and traditional arts in 2006 when he founded the Sungkyun Theatre in Daehak-ro and later, Dream Factory in 2008 and the Studio SK in 2014 in Seoul. In 2012, the Seoul Metropolitan Government established the Korean Dance & Arts Center Corp., an art group called Beads Punch in 2013 and coop Shin in 2015. For these and other initiatives, he not only produces festivals like Duo Dance Festival, International Buddhism Dance Festival, Voyage to Dance and International Traditional Dance Festival RYU but also runs long-term performances of small theatres. He graduated from the Seoul Institute of the Arts with a degree in dance and earned a master’s and a doctorate in physical education at Myongji University. In addition, he has served as a visiting professor at  SOAS University of London, The University of Sydney and the University of Costa Rica, to name a few.

The event will have six presentations by Korean and Japanese artistes. Some of these include a composition of eight sequences representing the four seasons, the crane dance of Korean traditional scholars, and a representative folk dance, celebrated for its artistic value and aesthetic appeal among others.

Complementing this presentation, will be a Bharatanatyam performance by the disciples of Dr. Sandhya Purecha and Bharata College of Fine Arts & Culture and an Odissi performance by the disciples of Dr. Sarmishtha Chattopadhyay and Angik Dance Academy.
