Raas -Garba by Ulpa Desai and troupe from Baroda
In association with Kilachand Foundation and Mariwala Foundation
Supported by JCB SALONS AND SPA INDIA
Ulpa Desai and her troupe from Baroda present traditional folk dances of Gujarat.
Garba and Raas are two folk dance forms that are synonymous with Gujarat.
Garba is practiced by women, whereas Raas is restricted to men. Traditionally, these dances are performed during the festival of Navratri and form an integral part of the worship of Devi in Gujarat. Dressed in colourful costumes, dancers move to the accompaniment of songs in praise of Goddess Amba and heavy drum beats, leading to a climactic effect with high energy.
Several folk dance forms like Tippani and Hudo will be performed to live music and with a brief commentary.
