A renowned dancer, with a career spanning almost five decades, Daksha Sheth draws on her knowledge of a variety of dance styles in her choreography, including Kathak, Chhau and Kalaripayattu, aesthetically combining traditional and contemporary dance. Known for constantly evolving the dance vocabulary, Sheth was the first choreographer to introduce the aerial technique in Indian dance. Her group work has received critical acclaim both in India and abroad. She has been conferred several honours for her contribution to creative and experimental dance.
As the quintessential expression of the weaver’s imagination, talent and skill, the sari continues to be the jewel of the Indian handloom industry. Each sari is a unique extension of the weaver’s own body: his fingers and arms are both the tools and measuring sticks used during its creation. This union of the sari and the wearer exudes the
sensuality of dance. It traces the journey of a cotton seed from its germination through numerous manual processes—carding, combing, spinning, making yarn, dyeing, and finally, the weaving of a sari, which is draped in diverse styles. The choreography includes breathtaking aerial dances.
As the Sari takes centre stage, immerse yourself in a symphony of colours, from pristine white to vibrant hues!
