Khayal: Its Future

Saturday, 18th & Sunday, 19th – 9.30 am to 5.30 pm

In collaboration with ITC-Sangeet Research Academy & Indian Musicological Society

For a long time now, khayal has been the major genre that has dominated the Hindustani vocal music scene. It has also influenced North Indian instrumental music. This seminar aims to explore the origin and history of khayal, as well as the gharanas or styles associated with it. Well-known practitioners and scholars like Ajoy Chakrabarty, Vijay Kichlu, Ashwini Bhide, Lalith Rao, Umakant Gundecha, Vidyadhar Vyas, Mashkoor Ali Khan and others will deliberate on the aesthetic ideologies of their respective gharanas. The seminar will be inaugurated by Shekhar Sen, Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi.
