Essentially a form of romantic poetry, the format of ghazal lends itself for being  composed to music and presented as a “song”.

Osman Mir started his career as a tabla player, but soon took up singing. Gifted with a sonorous voice and versatile style, he sings diverse genres which include bhajan, Gujarati folk, Sufi and qawwali music, and ghazals in Urdu and Hindi. He has performed in 25 countries and sung for several Gujarati and Hindi films, notable amongst which is the song “Mor bani thangat kare” from the film ‘Ramleela’.

In this recital Osman Mir will present a selection of ghazals written by legendary poets and immortalized by Begum Akhtar, Jagjit Singh and Ghulam Ali.
