With Janmashtami just a few days away, we present Soordas, a musical mono-act, under our annual series, Shyam Rang, to celebrate the legend of Krishna, “the dark one”. It is conceptualised, written and presented by Shekhar Sen, a celebrated singer, composer, lyricist and actor, who is internationally known for his super hit mono-act musical plays like Tulsidas, Kabir and Vivekananda.

Soordas is a tale of the renowned saint-poet who was blind since birth. Intertwining stories of this disarming devotee of Krishna with 34 song sequences based on both popular and rare ragas, the play takes audiences back to the 16th century. It traces 105 years of the life of this remarkable human being, whose sightlessness did not hinder the inner sunshine of his unconditional love for the divine. From the 10,000 plus literary gems composed by Soordas, the play includes pieces capturing the antics of baby Krishna, the influence of Vallabhacharya, the saint-poet’s momentous interactions with Swami Haridas, Tulsidas, Meerabai, Akbar and Tansen among others.

Box Office: July 09th for Members & July 12th for Public.
