Film Screening

1965 (2015)
(Col: 130 mins)
Saturday, 31st – 3.30 pm

1965 is a riveting thriller that uses a piece of Singapore’s history like never before, through engaging stories of immigrants and natives—how a group of people, divided by race, language and religion, saw their lives profoundly transformed by a watershed moment. Their paths will cross and clash in the race riots in the months leading to the separation between Singapore and Malaysia and to the independence of a nation.

After his enlistment in BMTC Tekong (Basic Military Training Center), Ken appears to be highly demoralised. He enjoys rebutting his instructors when it comes to unreasonable training, and always chooses the easy way out. Ken gets to know different people in the camp, including Wayang King, who is the star recruit and wants to be an officer; Lobang, who is quick-witted and street smart; IP Man, whose unique feature is his over-sized mouth, and others. When these recruits undergo harsh training together, they bond and develop a deep friendship.
