PROGRAMME CHANGE

Symphony Orchestra of India
Zubin Mehta, conductor

An NCPA and Mehli Mehta Music Foundation Presentation

2 MUSICAL MASTERPIECES
1 LEGENDARY CONDUCTOR

Brahms: Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36

Maestro Zubin Mehta leads the SOI in yet another symphonic concert featuring the works of Brahms & Tchaikovsky. Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 is considered Brahms’ most personal and emotional musical statement. It’s a symbol of a change in era and a manifestation of romantic thinking. Tchaikovsky composed his fourth symphony in 1877 which premiered in Moscow on February 10, 1878. He wrote that he was severely depressed when writing the symphony, and that it serves as a faithful echo of what he was experiencing.
