An NCPA Presentation in collaboration with The Consulate General of Spain in Mumbai in partnership with IE Business School and ICICI Bank

Dance and music need no language, no boundaries, political or social. We erase borders with music and people come together to celebrate. Flamenco, Kathak and jazz are three disciplines of rhythm, dance and music that will meet and greet on the same stage, in a rare juxtaposition of the three forms.

Crossroads
Flamenco/Kathak/Jazz
(approx. 120 mins)

Aditi Bhagwat - Kathak
Bettina Castaño - Flamenco
Susan Mazer - Jazz Harp
Dallas Smith - Soprano Sax, Flute and Clarinet
Sanjay Divecha - Guitar
Swapnil Bhise - Tabla
Shruti Bhave - Violin
Emmanuel Simon - Percussion

Kathak exponent Aditi Bhagwat has explored varied traditions of dance and music through collaborations for the last two decades. Having started with jazz maestro Louiz Banks in her experiments with jazz music and then going on to collaborate with U.S.-based jazz musicians Dallas Smith and Susan Mazer, she actively brings this story to stage again in Mumbai. Exploring the foot-tapping traditions of Flamenco, Bhagwat and Bettina Castaño (Seville, Spain) go a step further in their collaboration by including jazz music. Renowned guitarist Sanjay Divecha performs his original compositions that resonate with Flamenco and Indian disciplines of music, adding a different flavour to the collaboration. Swapnil Bhise and Shruti Bhave are the Indian counterparts of this collaboration, bringing the best of Hindustani music to the platform to join hands with Flamenco and jazz. Lending seamless grooves and adding the percussive elements is Emmanuel Simon, who has worked with both jazz and Flamenco traditions of music before. All three styles, equally exuberant and spontaneous, are a great match…The Consulate General of Spain in Mumbai, in collaboration with Bhagwat, presents Crossroads, a compilation of versatile artistes and highly skilled performers in their own fields. This team of eight artistes will explore traditions of each form in their own styles and cross over to embrace the other. Kathak and Flamenco converge to jazz tunes and the harp, guitar and violin render exquisite melodies to the tapping feet.
