आनन्द-रसम्
Ānanda-Rasam -The essence of bliss
Odissi
by Ratikant Mohapatra’s Srjan
and
Ram Lalla
Kathak
by Shama Bhate’s Nadroop

Ratikant Mohapatra, one of India’s foremost Odissi dance exponents and choreographers, is celebrated for his innovative works that honour tradition while embracing contemporary aesthetics. Over four decades, he has significantly advanced the global profile of Odissi through performances, pedagogy and institution-building. As Director of Srjan and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Communication and Indic Studies at Sri Sri University, Cuttack, he has mentored generations of artistes, fostering excellence and creative vision. A recipient of honours including the Central and Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards, he holds a Guinness World Record for choreographing 555 dancers in a single Odissi composition, embodying an enduring commitment to the art’s preservation, evolution and universal appeal.

Ānanda Rasa (आनन्दरसम्) evokes the pure essence of spiritual joy expressed through movement, rhythm, and devotion. Blending emotive expression with the grace of pure dance, the presentation offers an experience where beauty, bhakti, and bliss flow seamlessly into one another.

A performer, teacher, choreographer, artistic director and thinker, Shama Bhate’s work spans 50 years. She is the principal disciple of Rohini Bhate, the doyenne of Kathak, and of musician Suresh Talwalkar. She is a winner of numerous awards, including the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Maharashtra Rajya Puraskar and Kundanlal Gangani Award. She is the Director of Nadroop, a Pune-based Kathak institute. Bhate teaches at many state universities and is a member of advisory boards of numerous arts academies of national repute.

Production based on Lord Ram titled ‘ Ram Lalla’. It’s a unique production portraying different episodes from Lord Ram’s life. The presentation conceives all dancers and musicians as devotees in a remote temple, where everybody is immersed in Ram Bhakti.
Kathak, being a keertan parampara, conceives all dancers and musicians as storytellers portraying stories of Seeta Swayamwar, Kevat Prasang, Jatayu moksha, Lanka Dahan, Laxman Vadh, and the final Victory.
