Wagner: The Ring Without Words

Imagine one of the greatest mythical stories ever told. A combination of Norse gods, medieval German mythology and the spirit of J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis all rolled into one. The great tetralogy of Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), is a huge canvas that contains – if consecutively played – about 17 hours of opera. The theft of the Ring from the Rhine maidens by Alberich the dwarf starts a chain reaction of events in which gods, demi-gods, giants, nymphs, norns, valkyries and men are caught up. The gold from which the Ring is fashioned casts a pall of doom and disaster on all who touch it. By the time the four operas close, and the magic of the Ring is done, many have died, many have been betrayed and many have had their lives altered.

You don’t have to sit through 17 hours of opera, though. The Ring Without Words is an orchestral journey through the spirit and life force of this epic work, arranged and stitched together by Lorin Maazel. Don’t miss this great opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of Wagner and the world of The Ring.

The concert will run for approximately 75 minutes including one intermission.

ARTIST CHANGE FOR CONCERTS ON FEBRUARY 11 & 16

Due to medical reasons, Antoni Wit has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from the forthcoming concerts with the Symphony Orchestra of India.
We are pleased to announce that Jacek Kaspszyk will take over both the concerts on February 11 & 16. We are very grateful to Maestro Kaspszyk for agreeing to alter his schedule at such short notice to take over these performances.
Both programmes remain unchanged.
