Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1
Dr. Cavas Bilimoria’s talks this month are specially designed to familiarise the listeners with the music being performed at the SOI Autumn 2025 season. This second talk in the series will focus on Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Composed in 1875 and revised multiple times after, it is among the best-known piano concertos. Tchaikovsky had dedicated it to piano virtuoso Nicholai Rubinstein, who criticised the work and refused to play it, leaving the premiere to Hans Von Bulow. The upcoming talk will uncover the composition’s historical relevance and technical intricacies.
