Britten: Simple Symphony

For the second series of talks on Western classical music, Dr. Cavas Bilimoria will focus on the 20^th-century English composer, conductor and pianist, Benjamin Britten. The musical precocity with which Britten was endowed was such that by the age of 14, he had amassed a catalogue of 100 opus numbers, mostly of songs and piano pieces. In 1934, during his last year at the Royal College of Music in London, he delved into this stock for the themes of this symphony which is written for a string quartet or a string orchestra.
