Described as a “great classical stylist” conductor and violinist Augustin Dumay returns to the SOI with the acclaimed pianist, Maria João Pires performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor. Considered one of today’s great pianists, Maria João Pires, in an essay accompanying her recording of Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto muses on “music’s essential power to bring out a primal simplicity, which is present deep inside each one of us, waiting to respond when summoned”. The programme also features Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 and Mozart’s Concertone for two violins in C major.
