The Fabulous Jazz Ensembles
An NCPA Presentation
The history of jazz has a special chapter reserved for groups that have achieved iconic status. From Louis Armstrong’s Hot Fives & Sevens, Duke Ellington and Count Basie’s big bands, Charlie Parker’s Massey Hall Quintet, the Clifford Brown – Max Roach Quintet, Horace Silver, Miles Davis and beyond, the jazz scene is studded with gems.
Sunil Sampat will explore the music of some of the best ensembles in jazz history.
As Ellington famously said, “If you want to know where you are going, you must know where you have come from.” This session will explore exactly where jazz has come from with recordings from Carnegie Hall, Jazz at the Philharmonic, Newport and other jazz festivals, Massey Hall and studio sessions.
Free entry on a first come, first served basis. NCPA Members will get preferential seating till 5.20 pm
