Latin Jazz
An NCPA Presentation
Jazz is ever-expanding in scope, absorbing elements of music from other cultures.
Two legendary jazz musicians, Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington, first introduced a new beat into jazz eight decades ago, incorporating rhythms from Cuba and Puerto Rico. This trend in jazz has steadily flourished ever since. Stan Getz brought in the sensuous bossa nova beat from Brazil and Horace Silver played rhythms in his hard bop group from his native Cape Verde. Latin music has now become mainstream in jazz and has added a definite dimension to the genre.
Sunil Sampat will take you through the journey of this development with an audiovisual presentation and unravel the mystique of Latin jazz.
Admission on a first-come-first-served basis. NCPA Members will get preferential seating till 5.20 pm.
