A conversation with author Radha Chadha, award-winning cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee and Pookutty
Moderated by Nandini Ramnath
Jaya, Shabana, Adoor, Subhash…
What does it take to shape India’s finest filmmakers? How do you ‘make’ a Jaya Bachchan or an Adoor Gopalakrishnan?
Asia Society India Centre presents a conversation with Radha Chadha on her new book The Maker of Filmmakers: How Jagat Murari and FTII Changed Indian Cinema Forever, an intimate portrait of her father, Jagat Murari, the visionary who built the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), and created generations of outstanding talent, including Shabana Azmi, Subhash Ghai, Shatrughan Sinha, Mani Kaul, and many more.
The discussion, moderated by film critic Nandini Ramnath, will explore the question: Did Jagat Murari have a secret formula? The evening will also feature rare excerpts from ‘diploma films’ made by iconic FTII alumni.
