Sindhi Folktales Retold
by Menka Shivdasani

The NCPA Library Presentation in collaboration with Million Dollar Confidence.

A unique storytelling event titled ‘The Seven Queens’ offers a retelling of Sindhi folktales by Menka Shivdasani. These poetic dialogues, written in English, delve into the tragic romances immortalised by Sindhi Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai in Shah Jo Risalo.

Menka Shivdasani is an accomplished poet with four published collections in English to her name. She has edited anthologies of women’s writing and contemporary poetry, and Sindhi poetry by Mohan Gehani. Shivdasani has co-translated Freedom and Fissures: An Anthology of Sindhi Partition Poetry. Writing apart, she co-founded the Poetry Circle in Mumbai in 1986 and has organised annual festivals for the global movement ‘100 Thousand Poets for Change’ for 12 years. Currently, she serves as the Co-Chair of Asia-Pacific Writers & Translators (APWT).

These stories from Sindh promise to be a moving exploration of love and loss.
