An NCPA Presentation

This thematic presentation has been designed to enable uninitiated listeners to enjoy and appreciate the rich raga legacy of Hindustani music by associating a particular raga with a corresponding raga-based film song. In this event, we present select songs immortalised by the legendary playback singer, Talat Mahmood (1924-1998). Born in Lucknow, Manzoor Mahmood aka Talat Mahmood was a gifted singer in every sense. Though particularly known for singing soft and sombre semi-classical and non-classical ghazals, his film songs are also considered flawless and outstanding. His mellow, sweet and appealing voice coupled with clear diction and intonation set him apart from his contemporaries. Steeped in the extreme moods of romance and pathos, his inimitable style influenced the ghazal singing. Having been initiated into music at a young age, Gaurav Bangia has trained with several teachers. He has the distinction of being the first participant to win the Sa Re Ga Ma competitions for ten consecutive weeks, which is a record of its kind. Besides producing jingles and concept based shows, Bangia has lent his voice for South Indian film songs.
