Udaan: Reach for the Sky
Presenting Young Talent in Indian Music
Dharavi Rockers
An NCPA Presentation
Supported by Kotak Mahindra Bank
To celebrate Children’s Day, we present Dharavi Rockers, a group of 15 teenagers from Dharavi, the area known for being the largest recycling hub in Asia. Abhijit Jejurikar, founder and curator of Dharavi Rockers, created the group with the belief that music can be communicated across boundaries without any language barriers, and is a powerful medium for bringing about change. The group creates music out of waste material such as drum barrels, coffee shakers, paint cans, plastic boxes and other types of junk material that are found in the Dharavi slums, emphasising the concept of ‘recycle, reuse and respect’. Dharavi Rockers have collaborated with some of the biggest artistes across the world and given more than 150 performances across India. This event is mainly meant for children and it will conclude with an audience interaction with the artistes.
Admission on a first-come-first-served basis.
