An NCPA presentation

For one night only the theatrewallahs of Mumbai take centre stage for an evening of short performances that pack a punch celebrating our lives in the theatre – On stage and Off Stage.

The NCPA is all set to welcome the theatre-loving audience of the city with curtains ready to rise.

Akanksha Kadam, Akarsh Khuranna, Anuvab Pal, Aseem Hattangadi, Avantika Ganguly, Faezeh Jalali, Jim Sarbh, Ketaki Thatte, Kunal Roy Kapur, Marianne D’Cruz Aiman, Nipun Dharmadhikari, Priya Malik, Quasar Thakore Padamsee, Rajit Kapur, Sarosh Nanavaty, Savitri Medhatul, Simar Singh, Sumeet Vyas, Sunil Shanbag, Suruchi Aulakh, Srishti Shrivastava, Yuki Ellias, Zafar Karachiwala and others.

All proceeds generated will go as bursaries to support young theatre groups.

Synopsis:
Rajit made his debut on stage in 1978. His theatre credits include Love Letters, Class of 84, Girish Karnad’s solo performance of Flowers, A walk in the woods, Siddhus of Upper Juhu, Twelve Angry Jurors and recently Mosambi Narangi.

He has donned the Director’s hat for many plays including The Glass Menagerie, Mahua and Naqqaash (Hindi). Hi is also a Co-founder of Rage Productions.

His television breakthrough came with a role in the teleserial – “Ghar Jamai” in 1986.

His popularity soared with Basu Chatterjee’s Byomkesh Bakshi in 1991-92.
Rajit’s silver screen debut was in Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda, directed by Shyam Benegal in 1993. His other 60  film credits include Ghulam, Guzaarish, RAAZI, URI and Bypass Road.

His performance as Mahatma Gandhi in Shyam Benegal’s The Making of the Mahatma fetched him the National Award for Best Actor in 1995.

ARPANA and TAMAASHA THEATRE
present a glimpse of theatre music

Synopsis:
In a tribute to music in theatre, we will present three songs that have featured in our theatre productions SOUL, Mera Piya Gaye Rangoon (Shakespeare’s Alls Well That Ends Well), and Stories in a Song.

The songs will be performed by actor singers who are from the original cast of the productions.

All three songs are from different musical genres: traditional folk, popular theatre musical style from the 1900s, and a classical thumri.

The show will have two duets and one solo. All of them are performed theatrically.

They will be accompanied by live musicians.

Vinchu Chawla
Folk style Bharud performed by Kailash Waghmare and Ketaki Thatte.
A song from the Bhakti tradition, the singer cries out that he has been bitten by the scorpian of desire and greed.

An engaging monologue on an actual baithak (personalised performance) hosted by a regular customer Kishen of his love interest Geeta and her troupe. This will be followed by a Lavani number, a song that talks about a woman’s desire and her expectations from her lover.

Marianne D’Cruz Aiman

Language: English
Synopsis: 
She studied voice with Celia Lobo and Jean Kingdom Vollenweider and holds a Licentiate in Singing from The Royal Schools of Music, London.

She has been a sessions artist & vocal director for musicals in the city for over twenty five years working for directors like Salim-Suleiman, Vishal-Shekhar and productions of Oliver!, The Sound of Music, Grease!, My Fair Lady by Raell Padamsee’s Ace Productions as well as Aadyam’s Threepenny Opera and #Sing India Sing.

She has also voiced and sung for the leading ladies in Disney’s Pocahontas (Hindi) and Snow White (Hindi) and teaches at her self-founded school, The Singing Express.
