As a departure from the norm, two young musicians were selected by the visiting U.K. Board examiners as joint Young Musicians of the Year 2019 (YMOY). Anuvrat Choudhary was for 10 years under the tutelage of Priya Chaturvedi, and received rigorous training in piano performance achieving a Distinction at the Licentiate level examination of Trinity College London. Under the aegis of The Olga & Jules Craen Foundation (OJCF), he attended an advanced pianist’s course at Finchcocks Residency in the U.K. under the eminent piano pedagogues, Graham Fitch and Penelope Roskell. He was recently adjudged the first runner-up at the Brillante Nagaland piano festival, an all-India piano competition. Violinist R. Samyuktha also secured a Distinction at the Licentiate level examination of Trinity College London. She is a sixth-generation violinist from a family of legendary Carnatic music violinists. Since the age of 10, Samyuktha has participated in talent-spotting competitions and has given recitals at various music fora. She has performed with A.R. Rahman’s music ensemble, the Indian National Youth Orchestra, the Madras Musical Association and the South Asian Symphony Orchestra. Through The OJCF, she has attended the International Menuhin Music Academy. The programme includes “Thaiis Meditation” by Massenet, Beethoven’s “Appassionata” and compositions by Scarlatti, Field, Mozart, Chopin and Debussy. Udit Gupta, a classical guitarist, will also give a brief performance as the incoming YMOY 2020.
