Borodin: In the Steppes of Central Asia
Borodin: Notturno from String Quartet No.2
Selections from Walt Disney’s Fantasia
In the second set of talks in June, Dr. Cavas Bilimoria will take the participants through Borodin’s classics. These include In the Steppes of Central Asia, a symphonic poem describing a caravan passing through the grasslands of Steppes and Notturno, the third movement of Borodin’s String Quartet No. 2, which is thought to be a 20th-anniversary present to his wife.
The 1940 Walt Disney movie, Fantasia, sought to popularise classical music, particularly for those who stayed far away or could not afford to attend live concerts. Dr. Bilimoria will discuss two pieces from the Disney classic: ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ and ‘The Dance of the Hours’.
