Supported by Tata Capital
In Hindustani music, todi is regarded as ?one of the ten parent scales (thaat) into which allied ragas are classified. Traditionally performed in the morning hours, the ragas of this group are characterised by the use of flat ‘Re’, ‘Ga’, ‘Dha’ and sharp ‘Ma’, albeit with some exceptions. This specially designed recital is meant to elucidate the similarities and differences between ragas of the todi family. ?Dr. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande was groomed by veterans Narayanrao Datar, her mother Manik Bhide and Ratnakar Pai. Her brilliant style is marked by effortless exposition of melodies with pleasing tonal quality and aesthetic appeal. In this recital, she will present a few common as well as not-so-common varieties of todi, along with a relevant explanation about their tonal structure and characteristic phraseology. As a value added feature, a printed note will be shared with the audience.
