An NCPA Presentation
This thematic presentation has been designed to enable uninitiated listeners to enjoy and appreciate the rich raga legacy of Hindustani music by associating a particular raga with a corresponding raga-based film song. The song selection is based on melodies immortalised by the legendary playback singer Hema Hardikar, alias Lata Mangeshkar (born in 1929). Initially trained by her father, later she went on to learn from Aman Ali Khan of Bhendibazar gharana and was also mentored by one of the well-known music directors of yesteryears, Ghulam Haider. Having recorded for over 1,000 Hindi films and sung in over 36 Indian regional and foreign languages, Lata Mangeshkar is a living legend whose silken voice and immortal songs will be remembered for many years to come. The list of her non-film songs is also equally impressive. Trained in music under Jayanta Sarkar and Ajoy Chakrobarty, Anwesshaa made her debut at the age of 13 through reality shows. Besides being proficient in Hindustani classical music and Rabindra Sangeet, Anwesshaa has sung for several regional and Hindi films, and won numerous awards.
