Sattriya by Krishnakshi Kashyap
Kathak by Varsha Dasgupta

Krishnakshi Kashyap, a performing artiste, choreographer and educator of Sattriya, is a disciple of Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellow and Padmashri Awardee Nrityacharya Shri Jatin Goswami  and  Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Shri Ramkrishna Talukdar . A recipient of Young Talent Artiste Award by North East Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, she is a graded artiste of Sattriya Dance of Prasar Bharati, Doordarshan Kendra , Guwahati. An active soloist , Krishnakshi has also showcased her choreographies with her troupe in various prestigious platforms across the nation including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Thrivananthapuram, Agra, Varanasi, Kochi, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Indore, Thrissur,  Bhind, Shillong and Lucknow .

Varsha Dasgupta is a Kathak dancer, and a disciple of Guru Shri Abhimanyu Lal of Jaipur Gharana, besides being under the guidance of Guru Smt. Geetanjali Lal.

She is a recipient of scholarship by the Sahitya Kala Parishad, Govt. of India in the field of Kathak, an “A” Grade artiste of Doordarshan, and an empanelled artiste of Spicmacay. Varsha has performed at prestigious festivals in India and abroad including the ICCR tour to Canada, India in Russia and Ukraine Festivals, London OLYMPICS, Rashtrapati Bhawan and the BRICS and ASEAN Summits. She has been presented with the “Nandan Srijani Samman” for her participation at the Nandan Utsab, Kolkata. She is done her Bachelor of Arts from Miranda House College, Delhi University and holds a master’s degree in English Literature from IGNOU. Varsha is currently teaching the elementary courses of Kathak at the prestigious Kathak Kendra, New Delhi.

Performing item details:
1. Shiva…Anant
Lord Shiva, the lord of dance…the one who is the embodiment of creation and preservation is invoked through this composition. The choreography builds to a crescendo glorifying the attributes of Lord Shiva – his damru, matted locks, Ganga flowing out of his hair locks, and serpent around his neck – personifying the echo of Shiva, to the infinity.

2. Shuddha Nritya
Kathak’s finest technical nuances, in the time-cycle of 16 beats, in Vilambit Laya will be woven with Upaj, Thaat, and Uthaan to name a few replete with breathless spins, agile movements and lightning-speed footwork.

3. Love Sonnet
A sonnet is a 14-line poetry with beautiful rhyming patterns. This presentation will showcase the time cycle of 14 beats called ‘Dhamaar’ in which the Shakespearean Sonnet will be woven in English and Braj, showcasing different expressions of love.
