Berlioz: Overture, Royal Hunt & Storm from The Trojans
Berlioz: Les nuits d’été (Summer Nights)
Saint-Saëns: Symphony No. 3 “Organ Symphony”

Berlioz’s music from The Trojans opens this concert with dramatic and powerful music that captures the thrill of the hunt and the fury of nature in a mythic landscape. Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été then offers a contrasting experience — a dreamlike journey through songs of love, longing, and the beauty of summer nights. Each melody is a brushstroke in this impressionistic portrait of human emotion and the changing seasons.

A highlight of the evening is Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3, the ‘Organ Symphony’. This masterpiece is unique not just in its grandeur and complexity, but in its incorporation of the organ, creating a sound that is both majestic and deeply moving, and resulting in a truly immersive experience. The organ’s rich tones, combined with the vibrant orchestral textures, create a symphony that resonates not just in the concert hall, but in the heart of every listener.

Pre-concert talk at 4:15 pm in the JBT Museum.
