With the advent of Islam in Kashmir, a new cultural exchange took place among Central Asia, Persia and India. From these exchanges, came a new syncretic cultural mosaic comprising essences of Islam, Shaivism and Buddism. It is with such intracultural exchanges that Sufiyana kalam developed in the Kashmir valley, and went on to attain a sophisticated classical musical character and structure with complex rhythms and Maqams.
The Film explores the syncretic cultural tradition, both past and present, through Sufiyana kalam.
