A guided listening session on the musical artistry of Kishori Amonkar in her early career
(approx. 180 mins)
An NCPA Presentation
This programme makes available to lovers of Hindustani classical music, archival recordings of great masters. This month, we present music of the legendary vocalist, Kishori Amonkar (1931-2017), especially from the period 1960-1985, when her music seemed to be tilted somewhat more to the characteristics of Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. This session will be conducted by Dr. Arun Dravid, her senior-most disciple, offering an in-depth analysis of her music from that era. The programme will feature several audio excerpts in abridged form taken from her old live recording that will highlight her command over shrutis (microtones) in various ragas. It will showcase ragas she composed and also underline her individual approach and critical aesthetic sense concerning various ragas and bandishes. Dr. Dravid will also offer a vocal presentation of her own select compositions in several ragas, which she sang rather sparingly in her later career.
Admission on a first-come-first-served basis. NCPA Members will get preferential seating till 5.50 pm
