Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is arguably the most popular Russian composer of all time. His music holds great appeal through its tuneful, open-hearted melodies, impressive harmonies, and colourful, picturesque orchestration, all of which evoke a profound emotional response from the listener. All this holds true in his Fifth Symphony, and despite a muted response at its premier, it stands today as one of his best-loved creations.
