Hussain: Triple Concerto (world premiere, SOI commission)
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6
The concerts by the SOI feature the world premiere performances of a new triple concerto for sitar, bansuri, and tabla, composed by the renowned Zakir Hussain. Hussain is also featured as the tabla soloist, alongside Niladri Kumar on sitar and Rakesh Chaurasia on bansuri.
Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony forms the other half of this programme. Tchaikovsky’s final composition, popularly known as the “Pathétique” Symphony, from the French meaning ‘evoking emotion’ is recognized for its profound emotional depth and dramatic narrative. Referred to by the composer as the “Passionate Symphony”, Tchaikovsky commented: “Without exaggeration, I have put my whole soul into this work.”
Alpesh Chauhan, the rising star British conductor of Indian descent, conducts what is sure to be a memorable concert.
This event runs approximately 90 minutes including one intermission.
