The two main branches of Indian classical music – Hindustani and Carnatic – are similar in their fundamental approach to melodic and rhythmic organisation (raga and tala), yet they are distinct traditions, distinguishable on the basis of some concepts, styles and forms, poetry and song repertoires, intonation, ornamentation and instrumentation.
Gundecha brothers and Malladi brothers are well-known in Hindustani and Carnatic tradition respectively as siblings who perform as a duo. They will sing individually and together in ragas that are common to both traditions; exploring aspects like ragam-tanam–pallavi and dhrupad which are representative of their traditions.
