Four noted poet-translators will introduce women mystics from four languages. Poet, critic and cultural theorist Ranjit Hoskote explores the enigma that is Lal Ded, the legendary wise woman of Kashmiri mysticism. Poet and novelist Priya Sarukkai Chabria presents Andal, the fascinating female figure of Tamil Vaishnava literature, and her poetry of passion. Poet, playwright and scholar H. S. Shivaprakash introduces and reads his translations of the major and lesser-known women mystics of the Kannada vachana tradition. Finally, poet and novelist Jerry Pinto will read his translations from an assortment of women poets of the vibrant varkari tradition of Maharashtra, from Muktabai and Bahinabai to Janabai and Kanhopatra.
