About the Workshop
Introduction to Scenography is a workshop that takes you to the world of visual stories on stage and reflects on the power of visual language that communicates beyond the text and often the unspoken and unsaid. The basic theoretical backgrounds and the practical use of working tools relevant to the field of scenography (tools) along with knowledge in terms of the cross-pollination of the field and the multidisciplinary nature of the field shall be discussed. Introduction to some of the iconic plays, dramatists and scenographers that communicate through colour, design, symbolism, performance, metaphor, etc. The workshop shall provide a glimpse of some of the prolific scenographers from Germany, Russia, Poland and India at work.
About the Facilitator
Dr. Omkar Bhatkar is a Sociologist, Playwright, Independent Filmmaker and Stage Critic. He writes and directs plays and makes independent feature films and documentaries. He has been teaching Culture Studies, Film and Aesthetics and involved in theatre-making, poetry, and cinema for a decade now. He is the artistic director of Metamorphosis Theatre and Films and the co-founder and Head of St. Andrew’s Centre for Philosophy and Performing Arts. His plays are published in English, French, Spanish, Hindustani and Portuguese. His play ‘Blue Storm’ was selected for the Asia Playwrights Theatre Festival 2021 held in South Korea. He is also a member of the International Association of Theatre Critics.
