Brahms: Academic Festival Overture
Kodály: Dances of Galánta
Brahms: Symphony No. 2

Music brings stories and traditions to life in this concert of music by Brahms & Kodály. The concert opens with Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, a vibrant and spirited celebration of youth. Brahms himself described the piece as “a very boisterous potpourri of student songs.”  Next, let the Dances of Galánta by Kodály whisk you away to the quaint town of Galánta. These lively and heartwarming dances are infused with the rustic charm of Hungarian folk music, painting a vivid tapestry of cultural heritage and communal festivity. The evening culminates with Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, that takes you on an emotional odyssey. From serene, pastoral melodies to jubilant crescendos, this symphony reflects the full spectrum of human emotion, mirroring the beauty and complexity of life itself. Together, this concert will be an immersive experience that celebrates joy, nostalgia, and the unifying power of music.

Pre-concert talk at 6:15 pm in the JBT Museum.
