DHI – Our Thoughts
Parvathy Menon & Shijith Nambiar
Mahati Kannan will be showcasing four special pieces for the evening, choreographies of her Guru Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. The performance commences with a Ganapati Kauthwam gleaned from a 200-year-old Tamil manuscript. This will be followed by a Jatiswaram in Ragam Hamsanandi, a composition of Guru K. N. Dhandayudhapani Pillai, set to swan-like movements keeping to the name of the Raga. The third piece, a compilation of a Tiruppavai and a Tiruvempavai appealing to the rains, will be a welcome to the forthcoming month of Margazhi. The concluding piece will be Sri Jayadeva’s Dashavatara Ashtapadi.
Parvathy Menon and Shijith Nambiar, the young Bharatanatyam duo, have established their presence in India and abroad. Nambiar is an ex-faculty member of Kalakshetra, while Menon holds a post-diploma from Kalakshetra and is guest artiste with the institute. They have collaborated with various production companies and participated in festivals of dance around the world.
‘DHI’ is a manifestation of our thoughts. Every thought born from one’s mind starts to slowly breathe and find its journey. Every pulsating thought passionately expands into layers and layers of various forms and varied hues. Unfolding and unfurling into blissful dreams, our thoughts are those which create our magical world.
